Symbioetic Systems

Created while in residence at The Burren College of Art.

This piece was created in response to a practice of lichenizing pedagogy. Sympoiesis considers ways in which different organisms and species come together in a process of living and making. Through their interactions, meaning is co-created. My human body served as one organism, wool the other. This piece is reversible in nature, containing multitudes. The circle allows both binary colors, black and white, to be visible. This fabric adornment was created with local wool donated by Burren farmers. An ancestral art form, wet felting was engaged as a binding material.
